Adding a Car Spoiler. Should You or Should You Not?

Vehicle customization is always such a fun pastime. Adding new components to the interior and exterior can create a unique vibe that only you have. While super cool, it does come with plenty of consideration that need be spent throughout the process. Any one modification could cause your ride to function differently and that could be good or bad, depending on what you're going for. A popular mod many people like to add to their rides is a car spoiler.

Not only does this auto part double as a table (if it's big and tall enough) when you sit on the trunk lid, but it includes some great benefits to your vehicle's drag. But, again, there are pros and cons to adding this to your ride. At Toyota of Clermont we're running through them to help you decide the right course of action to take.

Adding a Car Spoiler. What Could Go Wrong?

The Spoiler Might Not Match Your Paint

Many car spoilers come pre-painted or primed to be painted. Modern Clermont Toyota cars typically won't have an issue getting a spoiler painted to match or painted with a coordinating color. But, older vehicles might have a rougher time of it as paint codes age out after so many years and duplicating them can lead to less-than-perfect results.

They Can Reduce Lift without Adding Weight

Clermont car spoilers are great because they add a boost of performance without actually modifying the engine. Spoilers catch air while you drive and force the rear-end of the vehicle down and improve handling. Plus, due to their extremely light construction, the weight they add to your vehicle's curb-weight is negligible.

Careful Not to Make Your Car Look Ridiculous

There is such a thing as doing too much, especially when it comes to modifying your ride. In the spirit of understanding the assignment, consider your car and think critically if it would benefit (both performance and style-wise) from adding a car spoiler. Putting yourself in the shoes of a pedestrian, if you wouldn't do a double-take at your ride if it passed by with a new Clermont spoiler on, then maybe don't add one.

They Can be the Perfect Accent Piece

While we said before to avoid making your ride look ridiculous by adding a car spoiler, it's hard to deny that they can sometimes be just the right accent to make your ride pop. Sport and super cars are ones that can easily adopt a spoiler and make it really work. To boil it down, it depends on what your ride looks like.

They Can be Easily Damaged

Spoilers provide a lot of benefit, but they're not the toughest auto parts out there. In fact, they can often fall victim to cracking and scraping. Even strong winds can damage them if you're not careful. If you choose to have one installed, take care to protect it from the harshness of the road.
