Check Out This Toyota Supra Made out of Legos

Updated: Sep 1, 2021

The construction of car body parts and materials has come a long way. Today's vehicles are arguably lighter, safer, and provide a lot of benefit to people on the assembly line and drivers. Cars have certainly evolved with time, but that doesn't mean we can't get creative every once in a while. And who better to be creative than Lego. Yes, the amazing bricks that we know and love have created a truly unique rendition of the GR Toyota Supra to go on display at Legoland Japan.

A Dive into the Lego Toyota Supra

Sometimes if you stop to ask "why" rather than "can," you miss out on a lot of fun (Jurassic Park would say different). Everyone is familiar with Lego. The brand of building blocks that the world continues to be enamored with as they emulate all manner of popular franchises and real-life events/objects. For fans of Toyota and Lego (such intersectionality), get excited!

In a partnership with Lego Japan, Legoland Japan, and Toyota Gazoo Racing, a 1:1 scale model of the Clermont Toyota Supra has been created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of an icon. Here's a look at what it took and what's in this pixelated masterpiece:

  • The Lego model of the Clermont Toyota Supra is a 1:1 scale model. Meaning that it closely replicated the size of the original car. The Lego model is slightly wider and much heavier due to the sheer amount of bricks used.

  • For a more accurate number, the GR Supra Lego model used 477,303 bricks in total. It took an estimated 3,000 hours to fully assemble the Supra. It even includes working lights!

  • Some parts were sourced from a Clermont Toyota Supra, including the wheels, driver's seat, steering wheel, gauge cluster, and badging.

  • What's even cooler is that this Lego-made ride actually runs! The Supra model, like many of Lego's other 1:1 scale vehicle models, is outfitted with an electric drivetrain. This can get it up to a top speed of 17 mph. While not as fast as an actual Supra, it's still an amazing feat. After all, why would you get behind the wheel of a Lego vehicle for speed?

  • The interior is incredibly detailed with color-accurate accent pieces and touchpoints, like the dashboard, gauge housing, shift knob, and passenger seat (the best part).

  • In total, the Lego model Clermont Toyota Supra clocks in at 4,156 pounds and will be on display at Lego Japan until October 11th of this year. Afterward, it'll go on to be displayed at the Japanese Super GT racing series.

While you can't purchase this specific Supra model, you can purchase a much smaller, 299-piece Lego set model of the GR Supra. Go nuts!
