Think about all the places you drive. Everywhere you go and all the things you pass by. Truthfully, if you did do this, it'd probably make your head spin trying to remember everything. Now, think about those things and how many of them are hazardous to your car's body. The answer is probably most if not all the things you thought of. Now, before you start hyperventilating, there's no cause for worry. Auto body damage is fairly common and happens all the time to every car on the road. It's pretty unavoidable if you actually drive your car.
Luckily, there's a collision repair category called paintless dent repair that can be of great help. This form of repair doesn't involve repainting and can be done with a minimal number of tools. Even laymen can access this type of repair pretty easily. Toyota of Clermont is here with some tips to get you started (along with a few tricks to try). Check it out!
Time to DIY some PDR. So. Many. Acronyms.
Paintless dent repair is actually a very sophisticated form of minimalistic body repair. Luckily, it's pretty easy to use workarounds and tricky methods to get the job done yourself. Here are a few methods you might want to try and employ:
The Plunger Method
Who would've thought that a plunger could provide more uses than just unclogging toilets? Well, funny thing is, you're actually using a sink plunger for this one. Make sure you're using one with a rubber head and a decent-sized cup opening. Next, apply water to both the plunger and the dented area and make sure the opening of the plunger cup fits around the dent. Begin pushing and pulling the plunger until the dent pops out and that's it!
Boiling Water Trick
Before you start trying this one out, remember that boiling water is terribly hot and can leave you with some nasty burns. You have been warned. After identifying areas of your vehicle that are dented in, take some boiling water and apply it to the spots. Now, this part is crucial and requires good timing. After applying the water, quickly reach behind the dent and push it out. The boiling water will cause the surface you put it on to ease its composition and make it more flexible. If you don't manage to succeed the first go around, reapply the water and try again until you get it.
Hair Dryer and Canned Air
This technique is similar to using boiling water, but you don't have to get too handsy and there's not as much emphasis on timing. So, win-win! Start by using a blow dryer or heat gun to expand the dented area. The heat will make it more flexible, much like the boiling water from before. Next, you're going to introduce a cold element to rapidly contract the area and pop the dent out, the canned air. Hold it upside down to create a cold reaction with the gas inside the can and spray the area. This should contract the hot area and cause the dent to pop out. See? Easy!
