Electric vehicles have evolved throughout the years, from the release of hybrids to the release of fully electric models. Toyota Clermont has supported this transition to a green world and is expected to release the new Toyota bZ4X, an all-electric model. This exciting new model will run on a battery that can be charged and has zero emissions. You may be interested in buying an electric vehicle, but are unsure of what maintenance your electric vehicle entails. Clermont Toyota experts are here to tell you tips on the maintenance of your electric vehicle.

1. Say Goodbye to Oil Changes
Electric cars move using an electric motor and a battery. This means most of the time electric vehicles don’t need transmission maintenance or fluid changes (so forget the routine oil change).
2. Taking Care of your Battery is Key
The Electric battery is essential to the running of your Toyota Clermont Electric Vehicle. So, with something of such importance taking care of it is a must. It requires some habits to implement. One habit would be keeping your battery state of charge between 20% and 80% to avoid the battery degrading over time. The cold and hot weather don’t mix well with the battery, so to prevent degradation put it in your garage or try not to leave it parked in the hot sun for too long.
3. Charge at Home with a 240-Volt
The best battery for charging at home would be a 240-volt Level 2 charger. This allows an additional 10 to 60 miles of range each hour. If that doesn’t work you can also take advantage of public charging stations, but try not to use them daily because they can negatively affect your battery life.
4. Electric Car Brakes Last Longer
The good thing about your Toyota Clermont electric vehicle is that it is not uncommon for them to last well over 100,000 miles before needing to replace the brakes. This is because electric cars use a process known as regenerative braking, which takes the kinetic energy of your vehicle and uses it to slow down.
5. Tire Maintenance Should Be the Same
You can expect the tire maintenance to be the same as all cars. Check your tires regularly and come into our collision center. Tires specifically designed for electric vehicles can be more durable than traditional tires.
