Tips for Removing the Worst Substances from Your Car Paint

Updated: Nov 2, 2021

Driving comes with all kinds of risks attached. Apart from the obvious risks of accidents and collisions, there’s something far sinister lurking on every roadway. We’re talking about dirt, grime, debris, and other things that can do a number on your car paint any day of the week. Unfortunately, these are things that you largely can’t avoid. We don’t drive in enclosed tunnels that are free of natural hazards (what an idea, right?). The only thing we can do as drivers is our best to take care of our car paint after the fact to prevent long-term damage.

While some debris is easy to wipe away and forget about, there are some substances that are more difficult to deal with than others. Luckily, Toyota of Clermont is here to detail these substances and the proper procedure for getting rid of them. Let’s check it out!

Removing the Peskiest Things from Your Car Paint Made Easy

Fingerprints

We know it’s hard to resist the car paint job of your Clermont Toyota car. But touching the paint is actually pretty detrimental to your ride. Your hands are magnets for dirt, grime, and oil (especially if you don’t wash your hands properly) and by touching your paint you’re actively transferring those substances to it. Plus, the oil from your hands and fingers is great at capturing more dirt. Win-win. To remove prints and oil, spot clean your paint with warm water and mild soap.

Water Stains

Water is going to get on your ride, that much is obvious. But, hard water drying is what you need to watch out for. Mineral deposit riddled water is very common and causes marks and stains on your car paint and auto glass when it dries. The best way to prevent this from happening is to thoroughly dry and wax your car after you clean it. Beyond that, make sure to keep your ride dry as often as possible and clean water stains as soon as you have the chance.

Bird Droppings and Bug Remains

Birds need to use the bathroom and bugs are often victims of car front bumpers. These types of substances are very common things your car paint will endure, but you need to be careful not to let them sit too long. The acidity of both of these things will eat through your paint and you’ll notice it when you finally decide to clean things up. Instead, don’t wait! Clean the bird droppings with distilled water and vinegar and the bug entrails with wet dryer sheets.

Asphalt, Highway Paint, Cement

If you’ve driven through a construction zone in Clermont, you might have run into one of these things. All these substances are designed to stay put where they’re placed. If that place happens to be your car paint, you’re in for a time. Resist the urge to remove these things all at once. Doing so could damage your paint. Instead, remove them slowly and without touching them by using things like Goo-Gone and WD40. Once mostly removed, inspect the area for any residual substance and gently clean to prevent scratching.
