Tips for Taking Care of Your Auto Glass Right

Thinking about your car, does your mind immediately think of the windows? Probably not. You'll probably think of the body, the wheels, the interior, and other things. While you might see out of your auto glass every day, you probably rarely ever really see it (wow, so existential). Life contemplating banter aside, your car's glass (i.e. windows and windshields) are crucial components of your ride that you couldn't possibly drive without.

If you've been feeling like a bad caretaker of your car's glass, don't stress. Toyota of Clermont is here with a quick care guide that can help your auto glass last and do its job perfectly. Let's jump in!

Clermont auto glass care tips.

Easy Care for Your Car's Glass

Between excessive amounts of sunshine and repelling rocks and other debris from the road (not to mention acting as support beams for your entire car's roof), your Clermont auto glass takes quite a lot of punishment between here and there. If you're going to take better care of this essential group of auto parts, you need to do it right. Here are a few tips to follow:

Clean Your Auto Glass with the Right Cleaners

Cleaning auto glass is a lot different than cleaning the windows of your home or apartment. For many of us, especially those of us that live in Clermont, we have tint installed to help block out harmful UV rays while we drive. Certain glass cleaners (i.e. ones with ammonia as an ingredient) are super harmful to tint and your glass. Instead, shop around for a better and more car glass friendly cleaner.

You can always make your own version of glass cleaner using warm water, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol. You should also use a microfiber or other glass-friendly cloth to wipe your windows with.

Go Easy When Closing Your Doors

We get it, sometimes you just have angst and your car is a big hunk of metal getting in your way. A few acts of aggression later and you might find that your Clermont auto glass is a *tad* compromised. To fix this issue, stop slamming your doors! Your car will thank you. BONUS TIP! If you drive a coupe or a car with frameless windows, close your door with your hand on the door, not the window! Closing your door via the window will eventually cause it to close incorrectly. So don't do that.

Clean Your Auto Glass Methodically

When cleaning your Clermont Toyota auto glass, it helps to be methodical about it. What we mean is that you should start with a specific side of your vehicle and work your way around. Roll the windows down a few inches to clean the part that's often hidden in the rubber casing and roll them back up to clean the bottom. You should also clean the inside of your windshield after cleaning the dashboard to wipe away any other product or dust that may have made its way onto the glass.

Limit Sun Exposure

Unfortunately, there's no real sun screen for your auto glass. So, you're going to have to resort to other methods to limit your auto glass' exposure to the sun's harmful rays. Start by parking your Clermont Toyota car in shadier spots. Parking garages, under trees, in your garage, are all great places! Consider also using a sunshade to block sun out of your front windshield if you can't find enough shade. And definitely have your windows tinted. This will effectively block out harmful rays from the sun and protect your glass and you.
